Forklift Attachments and Accessories – Part 2

In Part 1 of Forklift Attachments and Accessories, I talked about the financial and tax advantages of buying add-ons for the equipment a warehouse already has as opposed to buying more machines that do a single job and is only needed on occasion. Some of those examples were portable dumpsters, drum lifters, carpet poles, boom cranes, and snow plows.

The next category of attachments has to do with floor care. Dirty, oily or wet floors in a warehouse are potential slip hazards, and falling on concrete can do some serious damage such as broken bones and concussions. Keeping those floors clean and safe requires a lot of elbow grease and hours especially if you do it the old fashioned way with a push broom, mop or squeegee. Attachments are available that will turn your forklift into a broom, a sweeper, and a floor scraper. With these attachments, the floors get done in half the time, reducing the likelihood of falls.

Forklifts can also act as a tow truck for trailers or other equipment that needs to be moved. Again, switching from forklift to tow truck is an easy procedure that can be done quickly and requires no special skills. Simply place the attachment over the existing forks and pin it into place. Towing weights can vary greatly so make sure to purchase the right size for the job.

In a bid for more room, many warehouses go up. Merchandise is stacked and stored from floor to ceiling. As units are needed to process an order someone has to climb up to get them. Again, forklift attachments offer a practical, inexpensive, and safe way to do so. These attachments are called stock picker or order picker platforms. These platforms attach to the forks and come in various sizes and weight capacities to accommodate the size and heft of the product being picked. Safety is an important feature of these platforms and most have safety chains, guardrails, handrails, and a non-slip decking. In addition, most have a steel mesh safety screen which makes it easy to fasten a safety harness.
When warehouse needs demand more equipment and a variety of it, consider attachments and accessories for the forklift you probably already have. Attachments turn a single forklift into a multi-functional machine at a fraction of the cost.
